Do you remember the ALS ice bucket challenge from last year? Social media like Facebook was filled with ordinary people pouring buckets of ice over themselves as a way to raise awareness – and funds – for ALS research. The challenge was an unexpected and great success for ALS research. It also got me thinking about how we think about disease. Do you have a disease-oriented focus or a healthy focus?
I’m aware my personal scope of vision is very narrow and I do not see the whole picture. My heart goes out to those who are experiencing a chronic or a terminal disease. I certainly do not understand what it is like to have such a disease. But from my puny perspective, I wonder what it would be like if we personally and as a society focused on healing instead of on disease? Thoughts wrapped around the “disease” create fear, pain, helplessness and regression. Thoughts directed to health and healing create hope, motivation, empowerment, strong positive vibrations and healing progression. I have witnessed first-hand the fatal consequences of traditional treatment for terminal disease (treatment that was very disease-focused). I also have witnessed and experienced the healing power that comes from a focus on health through adoption of a holistic lifestyle.
That is why I encourage going beyond challenging yourself to an ice-cold shower from a bucket and donating money for research. Adopt a healthy focus by changing your thoughts, words and actions to holistically shift how you live. Educate yourself and your loved ones about ways of living that promote health and vitality, not only for the sake of our own bodies, but our entire planet and environment. The actions we take and lifestyle we choose are not just for our own health and vibrancy, but for EVERYONE.
