Get Unstuck!

Our new, ACTIVE therapy group utilizes running to help you get unstuck, whether the stuckness is in your career, relationship, emotions, or life in general. This closed small group (capped at 8 participants) meets for 6 weeks and focuses on a different topic each week to recognize stuckness, work through stuck points, and move forward. The 60-minute group meets early morning on Thursdays for a brief discussion of the week’s topic focus, then the group runs to and in area parks before a wrap-up to process participants’ experiences. Group facilitator Sanya Syrstad, LCPC is a seasoned professional counselor who also is a world class athlete in her age group. This group is ideal for those who lead busy lives and struggle with finding time for self-care. No running experience is required.

Running Group

This FREE 9 to 12 week group is for children 4 to 7 years old who are grieving the loss of a loved one due to death, divorce, deployment, long-term illness, incarceration, or other life-altering event. Children in the group can grieve, communicate, and heal among their peers, so they no longer feel alone in their grief and can gain confidence from the groups support. A group for 8 to 11 year-old children may be added pending interest. Rainbows is forming now and is led by Kristine Buelow, LSW in our Glen Ellyn office.

Manage Stress and Anxiety with Relaxation and Awareness

This awareness and skill-building group to manage anxiety is led by Marina Lisjonok, MSW, E-RYT. The group helps you learn to identify your anxiety triggers, be guided through yogic breath and movement techniques for stress management and emotional well-being, learn mindfulness and meditation techniques, and process your learning in these 75-minute sessions. Forming now for Mondays, 6:00-7:15p.m. in our Glen Ellyn office.

The Power of Meditation

Learn what meditation is, its benefits, and the "how to" basics in this open enrollment, 6-week ongoing series. Each session, we will explore a different meditation or mindfulness technique and provide you with enough knowledge for a foundation on which you can confidently build your own practice. Recordings of each guided meditation will be provided to facilitate practice between sessions. Wednesday evenings, 6:30-7:30 in our Glen Ellyn office. Life Coach and certified yoga teacher Stephanie Gutzmer of From Within and Myles Van Camp, MS facilitate this group.

The Power of Meditation

Explore how the body can be an incredible resource for self-regulation, self-care, and peace, and learn how to allow the body to be that resource. In this 4-session group, you will learn to connect with the body, listen to its sensations and impulses, and practice ways of bringing the body into a state of calm curiosity. Kim Rothwell, LCPC, CADC, BC-DMT, GL-CMA leads this group, which if forming now, for 4 consecutive Tuesdays, 1:00-2:00.

Embodiment Group

Motherhood: Embracing the Transformation

Becoming a mother is not easy. Rarely are mothers granted the time and space to reflect and recuperate. In this group, we explore with compassion and a fierce commitment to the celebration of the “good enough” mother. Part support group, part experiential group focusing on self-care, and part opportunity to hold each mothers’ story, this group is designed to allow women to not just survive but thrive in their role of mother. Kimberly Rothwell, BC-DMT, LCPC, CADC leads this 4-session group-course which is forming now on for Thursdays, 6:15 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in the Glen Ellyn office.

For Professionals: Authentic Movement - Understanding Embodiment and Somatic Counter-Transference

This course is designed to support therapists in their process of working with clients by supporting the therapist's own embodiment and awareness of somatic counter-transference. Using Authentic Movement, a mindfulness practice that “drops in” to the embodied experience of sensation, impulse, emotion, and imagery, movement can unfold from a deep inner wisdom. By coming into contact with one's own embodied experience with curiosity, openness, and acceptance, therapists are better equipped to be conscious of and work with the somatic counter-transference present in the therapeutic relationship. This course is $40/session, and forming now to be held Thursday evenings, 6:00-7:30, and led by Dance Movement Therapist Kim Rothwell, LCPC, CADC, BC-DMT, GL-CMA.
