Aneta Wisniewska

Intern (Glen Ellyn)

In 2018 I embarked on the journey to become a clinical therapist. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago and I am currently in my final clinical internship year of my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Northeastern Illinois University. In addition, I am also a student practitioner in the Somatic Experiencing (SE) Professional Training Program, a body-oriented therapeutic approach designed to work with trauma and other stressor-related disorders. My background is in arts, meditation, breathwork, grief, and PTSD. I also utilize attachment-based, Mindfulness, and parts (IFS) informed approaches.

Although we share experiences, I believe that our individual stories are unique and shaped by developmental and cultural factors. My main focus is recognizing and meeting these individual needs. Therefore, I use a holistic and integrative approach that considers the physical, social, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being of each individual with whom I am honored to share my space.

When we experience trauma, the energy used to protect vulnerable parts of ourselves causes us to disconnect from our core selves. This prevents us from accessing our resources and gifts, fully being present, and experiencing the joy of life. The collaborative effort between the client and the therapist, based on trust, safety, and attunement, creates the necessary conditions for a positive shift to take place. I guide clients to tap into their own internal resources, establish new ones, and learn to utilize them. This comes from my belief that clients are their own experts, and my role is to facilitate a space for them to reconnect with their inner wisdom and their own truth.

I am Bilingual: English/Polish and I see clients in the Glen Ellyn office as well as by telehealth.
